Poke Balls

Apricogs builds Poke Balls on a Create assembly line. Every stage of a ball is a real item, and every stage can be undone with a saw or a wash. All the recipes are shown in JEI.

The parts of a ball

The line at a glance

Step What you do Machine
1 Cut a bottom from a metal sheet Mechanical Saw
2 Cut a lid from an Apricorn Mechanical Saw
3 Join bottom and lid into a shell Deployer
4 Fit a mechanism to get an armed shell Deployer
5 Fit a stencil to get an unpainted ball Deployer
6 Pour aprijuice over it to get the finished ball Sequenced assembly with a Spout

Each step also exists as a crafting table recipe, see below.

Stencils

A stencil tells the line which ball to build. To make one, compress an iron plate (or a zinc plate) with the matching Cobblemon ball in a Basin under a Mechanical Press. You need one real ball of each kind, made with Cobblemon's own crafting recipe, to make its stencil.

Stencil recipes

Every stencil

1. Bottoms and the metal tiers

The metal of the bottom sets the tier of the ball. A Mechanical Saw cuts a metal sheet into 6 bottoms. A short sequenced assembly (blaze powder, press, saw) turns an ingot into 8 bottoms.

Tier Metal Used by
1 Copper Poke, Premier, Safari, Heal, Azure, Citrine, Roseate, Slate, Verdant and the basic ancient balls
2 Iron or zinc Great, Fast, Level, Lure, Heavy, Friend, Moon, Sport, Park, Net, Dive, Nest and some ancient balls
3 Gold Ultra, Love, Repeat, Timer, Luxury, Dusk, Quick and the strongest ancient balls
4 Brass Dream, Beast
5 Netherite Master

Bottoms

2. Lids and colors

A Mechanical Saw cuts an Apricorn into 2 lids of its color. Lids you cut from a washed Apricorn are plain and can be painted later.

The lid keeps its color through every later stage, and a lid whose color is part of the ball saves the paint of that color. For example, a Great Ball needs 500 mB of blue and 500 mB of red, but with a blue lid it only needs the 500 mB of red.

A ball made of one color only (Poke, Premier, Azure, Citrine, Roseate, Slate, Verdant) is finished at once if its lid already has the right color.

Lids

3. Aprijuice, the paint

Aprijuice is the liquid paint of the balls. There is one for each Apricorn color: red, yellow, green, blue, pink, white and black.

Recipe Result
Apricorn and 1000 mB of water in a Mechanical Mixer 1500 mB of aprijuice and a Washed Apricorn back
The same with sugar, in a heated Mechanical Mixer 2000 mB of aprijuice and a Washed Apricorn back

Aprijuice can be put in a bucket with a Spout and taken out again with an Item Drain. Any liquid dye of the matching color also works as paint. Compatible mods can add some, see Compatibility.

4. Mechanisms

Mechanism Used for How it is built
Modern Ball Mechanism Every modern ball Iron nugget, then a Deployer adds redstone, a shaft and glowstone dust
Ancient Ball Mechanism Ancient balls Copper nugget, then a Deployer adds a cogwheel and gunpowder, three times

Mechanisms

5. Shell, armed shell, unpainted ball

All three steps use a Deployer.

  1. Bottom and lid make a shell.
  2. Shell and mechanism make an armed shell.
  3. Armed shell and stencil make an unpainted ball.

The metal of the shell must match the tier of the ball.

6. Painting the ball

Put the unpainted ball on a belt and pass it under the Spouts. The colors and amounts are set by the ball, each color slot costs 250 mB. The recipe is a sequenced assembly, so JEI shows the order.

If a lid already has one of the colors of the ball, you do not pay for that color. The Master Ball and the Beast Ball follow their own recipes, see Special Balls.

Ancient balls

Ancient balls use the ancient mechanism and an ancient lid pressed from a tumblestone plate (see Special Balls). They need two colors of 250 mB each.

Crafting table alternative

Everything the Deployer does can be crafted in a crafting table, shapeless or stacked in a column. Painting stays a Create step, except for the one color balls, which are finished at the table when the lid has the right color (a Simple stencil and a red-lid armed shell give a Poke Ball).

Craft Ingredients
Shell Bottom and lid
Armed shell Shell and mechanism, or bottom, lid and mechanism together
Unpainted ball Armed shell and stencil
One color ball Armed shell with a matching lid, and a Simple stencil

At the crafting table a stencil comes back with one use less.

Washing and sawing

Nothing is lost when you want to go back a stage.

You have Action You get
A finished ball Wash it in an Encased Fan with water The unpainted ball
A colored shell or armed shell Wash it The same piece with a plain lid
A shell Saw it Bottom and lid
An armed shell Saw it Bottom, lid and mechanism
An unpainted ball Saw it Bottom, lid and mechanism (the stencil is not given back)

You can also repaint a colored shell or armed shell directly with 750 mB of aprijuice.

Gilded chests

Aprijuice also repaints Cobblemon's gilded chests: 1000 mB of aprijuice changes the color of a chest to any of the seven colors.
